First .... if you're looking at this page, then you can do this!  We are happy to help you start your garden.  If you have questions, just email us, and we'll get back to you.  growgreen4women@centurylink.net

If you have any threat of animals getting into your garden, you will need a fence.  This is a split rail fence, and we will staple chicken wire all around the inside perimeter.  You can either eye-ball the fence for a straight line, or.....

...you can listen to the nice old man at Lowe's who reminds you to use string for a straight line...clearly, eye-balls work better for us!

Have fun building some kind of scarecrow...this is an old hammock stand...the headless scarecrow!   Jump-starts your heart every time!

We use two  8' timbers end to end and stack them 3 timbers high; then, we cut three 8' timbers in 1/2 for the ends.  We hold them up with rebar pounded into the ground and against the timbers.  Be sure you dig up any grass under the bed before adding compost/soil.  Use ground cloth and its staples to surround your beds...will help ward off pests and weeds.  The more $$ the cloth, the better the protection.

Great compost/soil is KEY!!!  Its importance cannot be minimized.  This compost is from a local mushroom plant, and it is primarily horse manure.  It's best to let it air and burn off some of the nitrogen content for about a week before planting in it.

We built chicken wire canopies to protect the beds from animals, but with the fence and perimeter wire, we're hoping that'll work.  If you can't build a fence, these canopies work well, but choose a very strong pvc pipe, and allow plenty more wire than shows here, so the leaves can spread out.  This pvc is too thin, so it bends too much.
